Q. Where did the company name come from?
Principal and Founder, Sarah Jackson wanted to keep the original sentiment of building out her own big idea using her initials, while reflecting the essence of the work that came out of her studio. She consulted the family wordsmith - her sage Grandmother - an expert with crossword puzzles and word games. “Grandma, how can I keep my initials, but give life to all the designs and concepts of my growing team?”
That’s “simply JIM-DANDY”, she said!
(Random House Dictionary of the English Language):
(jim/dan/de) adj. Informal. something of superior quality or that is an excellent example of its kind.
And simply JIM-DANDY was signed, sealed and registered in Jamaica.
Q. Who do you work with?
We like to think we work with the best or those on their journey to being the best. Our preference is for working with like-minded people, who share a similar work ethic. We work with talent all over the world, from one-man bands (like how we started) to large corporates. No matter the budget, big or small, once we share the common thread of great design, we sign-on and deliver on time.
Q. Do you do speculative work?
We don’t pull ready-made concepts out of a hat in order to win business, so that ‘s’ word isn’t even in our vocabulary; it’s simply not how we like to build relationships. Our process is detail-oriented and triggered by information you provide to guide us.
We believe in a collaborative partnership where we listen, research, and work with you to create the perfect solution to meet your needs. We believe we’re worth choosing, hands-down.
Q. How much do you charge?
In a competitive marketplace and a tough global economy, we believe in the philosophy ‘you get what you pay for…and then some. Every project we accept is specific to that client so the cost will depend on the type of project and its scope.
Q. Are there hidden fees?
At SJ we foster a culture of accountability and transparency; costs are project-based and quoted prior to commencement of work. There are no hidden or extra fees. However if there are changes to the scope of work during the life of the project, these will need to be considered or quoted and billed separately.
Q. How long does a typical project take?
Hmmm that’s a tough one; each project is unique and varied by objective, audience and a host of other measures. Sometimes we take an hour sometimes a month—it all depends on the scope of work. One thing’s guaranteed, we take deadlines very seriously and we follow-up like any drill sergeant to ensure that you too are also meeting agreed timelines.
Q. What if I don’t like the concept you produce?
We’ve all been professional designers even before the inception of SJ in 2010, so we’ve pretty much seen it all and worked across the industry. It’s our responsibility to ask the right questions and get the information we need from you to get our jobs done well. If a concept isn't quite right, we graciously accept your critique and feedback and come back to you with a concept that is in line with your preferences.
Q. Are you hiring?
We're always happy to find new talent to infuse into our team. If you believe you have what it takes to add value, then drop us a line and let's take it from there.
